Position Overview & Specifications

Location: Birmingham

As part of the UK and Ireland stations team, the Station Manager is responsible for the stations under their remit, managing the performance of the station and for the quality of services provided by external suppliers (assistance companies, subcontractors). The whole activity must be consistent with the safety, security and service standards, as well as objectives that are set by Air France and KLM.

Management of Operational Aspects

  • Ensures the overall monitoring of the ground operations, follows up on incident reports as well as corrective actions and related communication. Ensures application of procedures in compliance with Air France / KLM manuals, and the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Responsible for the application of Security rules and standards as defined by regulations and by AF or KL Security departments
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the AF and KLM Emergency Response Plan for all AF KLM mainline stations and ensure that it is compatible with the airport authorities, emergency responses plan/orders
  • Ensures that Air France and KLM comply with immigration, customs and Department for Transport regulations
  • Ensures that the handling agent is responsible for the (daily) interface of the station with the operations control centers
  • Responsible for maintaining good working relationships with providers/facilitators to ensure the interests of AF and KL are well protected
  • Responsible for the service delivery and the on-time aircraft handling process at dedicated station(s)

Management of Commercial aspects

  • In terms of Customer Satisfaction and Management, the Station Manager is responsible for guaranteeing the service standards (with special focus for premium passengers and lounges), monitoring customer satisfaction and service/product compliance
  • In terms of Suppliers Management, the Station Manager is responsible for the execution of handling contracts and the fulfilment of the requirements listed in the SLA

Management of Quality

  • Analyse any information related to operations in all airports to ensure that the Stations quality system and the procedures are always compliant with both the airlines, the UK authorities regulations (Department for Transport, Metropolitan Police, Customs), French/Dutch Civil Aviation and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
  • Responsible for the development of new services at the airport and supporting new projects
  • Organises regular meetings with local Airport Authorities, Airline Operators Committee and suppliers

Management of Finance

  • Involvement in the definition of the budgets for all airports at dedicated stations
  • Follow up of the budget and make contributions to the rolling forecast
  • Realises targets agreed upon (e.g. net costs per seats)
  • Takes part in, and contributes to the re-negotiation of all 3rd party handling contracts for ground handling.

Functional knowledge

Thorough knowledge of aircraft handling, ramp handling and passenger handling processes.

Software Knowledge

Basic Office 365

Breadth or Level of experience:

Substantial experience of working in an operational airline position in areas such as station management, operations and/or aircraft handling. Budget control
