Position Overview & Specifications

Alitex Ltd, established in 1952, is a thriving family business specialising in designing and manufacturing world-class aluminium glasshouses. You will be working for the New Product Development Manager on the design and development of the Alitex products as part of the Engineering Team to ensure we remain the market leader in our field.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity for a recently qualified Design engineer (Mechanical) to work alongside and be mentored by some experienced mechanical engineers.

  • Creating cost effective, practical design solutions in collaboration with the rest of the Engineering Team.
  • Producing models and drawings for manufacture of prototypes using Solidworks.
  • Undertaking hands-on build and testing.
  • From accessories to greenhouses you’ll be aiding in improving our products through design.

Office hours are 8am to 5pm (for 40hrs/week Monday – Friday)

Salary: £25-£30k per annum depending on experience.

Required Skills

Essential:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Two years minimum post graduate mechanical design / product development experience.
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD for design and detailing (Solidworks preferable).
  • Knowledge of design for manufacture and value engineering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Practical person with a hands-on approach to problem solving and prototyping with an ability to use basic hand tools.

Desirable:

  • Glazing system design experience, especially using aluminium extrusions.
  • Experience in material and fixing selection and process application.

Other items of note

  • Alitex is based in a rural location near Petersfield in Hampshire, with limited access to public transport.
  • The role is mainly office based, but with some practical hands-on work in the factory environment.
  • Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK.
  • 22 days holiday per annum, extending to 24 after 1 year’s service.
  • You will have monthly development meetings with your line manager.
