Position Overview & Specifications

Assistant Underwriter: £30,000 to £40,000 for London
Here at Aviva, we are currently on the lookout for an ambitious Underwriter, who has previously worked in, or is keen to gain exposure to working within, the High Net Worth (HNW) / Private Clients market (Aviva Private Clients – APC). Therefore, if you are keen for a new challenge in this space, we’d love to hear from you….
A bit about the job:
You will provide key underwriting services (including mid-term adjustments and renewals) to the APC panel of brokers, working closely with your peers to provide and maintain a high level of service to ensure that the APC division meets and exceeds retention and growth targets. By creating strong working relationships with brokers, you will build their confidence in us, to make sure that APC is their insurer of choice. You must also be confident when it comes to problem solving – i.e., identifying and understanding the problem at hand, using a customer thinking approach to identify solutions for continuous improvement of customer experience.
Aviva introduced “smart-working” in 2020 and encourage flexible working; however, the successful post-holder will need to be based a commutable distance from our London offices.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
  • Prior experience working in an Underwriting or Broker focused role for an insurance provider
  • Exposure to working in the High Net Worth / Private Clients space, with strong market awareness (including competitors, market trends and brokers)
  • Strong communication skills – i.e., ability to present to, and influence, clients (i.e., brokers), building up strong working relationships
  • Strong numerical skillset matched with a team player mentality and excellent organisational skills
  • Good knowledge of the FCA and other relevant regulations and legislations.
What you’ll get for this role:
  • Annual salary of £30,000 to £40,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications).
  • Generous pension (starting level Aviva contributes 8%, when you contribute 2%).
  • Eligibility for annual performance bonus.
  • Family friendly parental and carer’s leave.
  • 29 days holiday per year plus bank holidays and the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days.
  • Up to 40% discount for Aviva products.
  • Brilliant flexible benefits including electric cars.
  • Aviva Matching Share Plan and Save As You Earn scheme.
  • 21 volunteering hours per year.
Aviva is for everyone:
We are inclusive – we want applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Excited but not sure you tick every box? Research tells us that women, particularly, feel this way. So, regardless of gender, why not apply. And if you’re in a job share just apply as a pair.
We flex locations, hours and working patterns to suit our customers, business, and you.
Most of our people are smart working – spending around 60% of their time in our offices and 40% at home.
