The role



As a Security Guard, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.


Day to day, you’ll provide a professional customer service and gateway to Devonport Limited Areas and other areas as directed.


  • Operate effective access control processes to ensure that Babcock is compliant with MoD requirements. Interior and exterior security through manual observation and the use of on-site CCTV cameras. Responsible for using corporate protocol to greet facility guests and staff, assigning the proper security access to each as per local protocol.
  • Reporting any suspicious activity to the MoD police immediately.
  • Perform scheduled and random checks of designated areas throughout the facility to check for any security breaches. Collaborate with other members of the security team to ensure that the facility is safe at all times. Maintain a professional and effective relationship with the other security forces on site.
  • Carry out patrols to ensure areas are secure and to prevent unauthorised access to sites, facilities and assets. Undertake casualty rescue role in support of the emergency response. Responding to life threatening situations such as medical alerts, fire alarms, suspected or actual crimes and other related situations occurring on DRDL property. Key issuing and control responding to alarms as required (Fire/Security). Promote a good security culture by challenging individuals, when security protocol is not followed.


Essential experience of the Security Guard
  • Security and customer service experience.
  • Excellent judgement, decision making and making informed decisions based on own initiative
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Computer experience and software knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to write clear daily written reports

This role is based Onsite in Devonport, Plymouth.


Qualifications for the Security Guard

  • SIA Security Guard or Door Supervisors Licence (Frontline)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
