An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 3 Doctor assistant assistant to join the nursing and medical team working on our Short Stay Ward at Queens Hospital.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic Doctor assistant with excellent communication skills, and we invite applications from those Doctor assistants who relish the challenge of working within Medicine.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is one of the largest Acute trusts in the UK providing specialist trauma, oncology, neurosciences, hyper acute, stroke and critical care services. The Acute Medicine team at Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) spans across both Queen’s and King George Hospital Sites.

The Acute Medicine Team at BHR are the ‘gate keepers’ of all medical admissions through both BHR sites. Acute Medicine is supported by Senior Nurses and Senior Managers; who all work collectively to support and maintain safe, patient focused, friendly and passionate service!

You will be working with other members of the multidisciplinary Acute Medicine Team, in providing high quality, holistic medical care in relation to ordering tests and investigations for patients, ensuring patient's journey is not delayed through monitoring and ensuring investigations are performed in a timely manner and results are made available to the appropriate clinician whilst supporting patients with their medical needs, before supporting their discharge to a variety of destinations.

On the direction of and under the supervision of a health care professional, to provide support to that professional either by giving direct patient care and/or clerical, administrative, manual, domestic and technical support to the medical team.

Under the leadership of our Chair Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, we provide care for the residents of three of the most diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London.

As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way nationally in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and our performance against the four-hour emergency access standard remains challenged, in comparison to many other London trusts.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also pleased to be part of the NEL Cancer Alliance.
