Position Overview & Specifications

Job Introduction

This is a 12 month attachment/Fixed Term Contract to the role of Head of People Operations and is accountable for leading our HR Service Centre team to deliver exceptional service to the organisation. This role provides HR expertise across a broad range of specialisms to underpin service delivery lines, whilst putting employee experience at the heart. The position is pivotal in ensuring HR delivers efficiently and effectively and is accessible to all.

Main Responsibilities

As Head of People Operations, you will lead our HR operational teams who provide front line and specialist advice and guidance to line managers in addition to administering and maintaining staff electronic records. You will ensure our processes and technologies are fit for purpose whilst proactively leading and continually improving the service delivery across the BBC, with the aim of delighting colleagues with the services offered. The successful applicant will play a lead role in the success of the HR Operating Model ensuring integration across HR to deliver a high quality, valued HR service that helps to develop management capability and the desired organisational culture in line with our strategy.

By leading the team performance, you will ensure our people are developed, motivated and available to deliver all services that in turn add value to the BBC. You will deliver consistently to an agreed service level agreements/Key Performance Indicators and look to continually improve HR processes, controls and procedures ensuring robust compliance and governance mechanisms are in place.

The role will work closely with Technology Group to continuously improve our HR systems development.

Other duties will include keeping up to date with external trends and best practice, sharing knowledge and best practice with colleagues as well as driving innovation to ensure the continuous improvement and development of fit for purpose tools for both the business and HR to use.


Are you the right candidate?
  • Senior/Manager level experience of leading HR Service teams in a large, complex organisations
  • Experience of HR Service delivery, proven operational experience in resource and capacity planning and working to SLA's/ KPI's
  • Knowledge or experience of working with HR technology products, specifically SAP HR including SuccessFactors
  • Understanding of current best practice and its practical application to the employee lifecycle
  • Track record of developing, adapting and executing departmental plans in line with strategic plans that enhance business performance
  • Proven experience in managing stakeholder relationships at a senior level
  • Proven experience of managing budgets successfully
  • Demonstrates resilience in a complex, challenging environment
  • Able to build strong, trusted relationships across the function, the wider BBC and externally
  • Exceptional communicator; an ability to influence and persuade at Executive Level
  • Confident using data and insight to create leading edge, innovative tools/solutions
  • CIPD qualified or equivalent experience at Manager Level
