Position Overview & Specifications
As a Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be required to work within the professional standards expected as a registrant of the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and maintain a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional development.
The post holder will be required to conform to agreed standard operational procedures, policies and good laboratory practice and also within their work duties, comply with the standards as required of UKAS and other relevant professional and Legislative Bodies (e.g. H.T.A., B.S.Q.R.)
To demonstrate our commitment and dedication to our staff we have a flexible recruitment and progression plan that consists of:
Band 5 Candidates
Band 5 Annex 21 at 75% for candidates with IBMS accredited degree who have not completed their IBMS Generic Training Portfolio with automatic advancement to Band 5 100% on registration
Band 6 Candidates
Band 6 Annex 21 at 70% for candidates with HCPC registration and evidence of core competencies with automatic progression to 75% on completion of out of hours (24/7 working) competencies and 100% on successful completion of IBMS Specialist Portfolio
Duties as a Biomedical Scientist will include performing a range of scientific procedures involving the processing of biomedical specimens to contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and investigation of pathological processes.
On completion of the necessary competence requirements, Band 6 post holders will be required to cover 24/7 out of hours service working as a registered scientist to deliver safe and effective specialist emergency and core testing services requiring the post holder to :
Support and advise laboratory support worker colleagues
Prioritise investigations in accordance to clinical need, ensuring optimum turnaround for urgent requests
Manage emergency requests, single or multiple.
Liaise with IT and specialist equipment suppliers to resolve system or equipment failures
To respond to Major incident procedures should the need arise.
