Position Overview & Specifications
Nursing Associates are a new regulated member of the nursing team in England. This role is designed to bridge the gap between health and care assistants and registered nurses.
The Nursing Associate training is a two-year course and upon completion, you will gain a dual qualification, a level 5 higher apprenticeship and a Foundation Degree Science Nursing Associate.
You will be required to attend University one day a week and undertake practice placements. To ensure that you develop the skills needed to care for people safely, with integrity, expertise, respect and compassion. Registered Nursing Associate posts will be available to Apprentices, on successful completion of the course and registration with the NMC.
The Nursing Associate is a stand-alone role that will also provide a progression route into graduate level nursing.
Nursing Associates provide care for people of all ages and from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. They provide care for people who have mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural care needs, those living with dementia, children and young people, the elderly and for people at the end of their life. They care for people in their own home, in the community or hospital or in any health care settings where their needs are supported and managed.
Birmingham City University will deliver the academic program over two years.
Entry requirements
- NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care
- NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care – plus written paper /essay set by Birmingham City University ( Portfolio,1500 words)
- GCSE grade C/grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics. GCSE equivalents are accepted, for example; Functional Skills Level 2 (or EFSA-approved equivalents).
- Demonstrate the ability to study at level 5 diploma of Higher Education
