Location: Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours of work: Typically, between 10am – 5pm off peak and 9am – 6pm during peak periods. We are at our busiest during weekends, Bank Holidays, and school holidays.

Salary: £19,760.00

We are looking for an Aquarist to join our team at Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay

Join the team at the Blue Reef Aquarium Newquay where customers can experience a dazzling undersea safari through the oceans of the world, from the local Cornish coast to the stunning beauty of the Tropical Reef. Role Purpose

To ensure the highest standard of exhibits are delivered throughout Blue Reef Aquarium using zoological strategies and an enthusiastic attitude to ensure that visitors are happy and want to return. This is done by considering the visitor experience, fun, education, value, conservation awareness and animal welfare.

Responsibilities

Animal Husbandry & Welfare

Consideration for the animal welfare of all animals in our care

Ensure the upkeep of all exhibits to the highest standard

Responsible for record keeping of livestock in all exhibits

Assisting in keeping all records of the movement of fish, mortalities, feeding regimes and physical parameters

Conduct the routine maintenance of all life support systems

Administration of appropriate treatment for sick or injured livestock after advice from the Displays Supervisor/Curator/Company Vet

Available for on-call emergency rota and ideally within 20 minutes of site.

Display Maintenance

1. Ensure displays and exhibits are maintained to a high standard

2. Responsible for minor maintenance of Life Support Systems and reporting major faults to the Displays Supervisor/Curator

3. Maintain, track and manage water quality of exhibit systems and quarantine system

4. To ensure that repairs are carried out on a timely and safe basis

5. Guarantee the highest possible standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout the attraction – inside and out

6. Maintain safe standards, clean & tidy all plant rooms, tool rooms, food prep rooms and quarantine facilities

7. Adhere to all company policies including Health & Safety, COSHH, Food Hygiene regulations and work related driving policy.

Other Duties

· You should deliver world class customer service at all times.

· Awareness and promotion of the Conservation Strategy throughout the activities of the Zoological department

· Responsible for providing informative, educational talks and tours to all visitors to the aquarium.

· Deliver engaging and educational lectures to college-based students.

· Responsible for the delivery of fun, informative and memorable birthday parties.

· To drive the company van when required to collect stock, equipment supplies and to deliver outreach programme, requiring a full UK manual driving license.

· To impart knowledge to the rest of the Blue Reef Newquay Aquarium team and if deemed necessary to assist in the training of work experience and work-based students

· From time to time the company or General Manager may make reasonable requests for you to undertake duties not necessarily covered in the above
