Overview

We are looking for tutors to work with parents in Early Years in High Wycombe, and/or Primary schools in Aylesbury and High Wycombe.

About us

Buckinghamshire Adult Learning is part of the Learning, Skills and Prevention Service, whose mission is:

to provide inclusive learning opportunities that promote well-being and inspire people living or working in Buckinghamshire to achieve their potential.

We are the main provider of part-time learning opportunities for adults in the county. The Service offers an advertised programme of taught courses and workshops from Entry Level. We offer qualifications in areas such as English, mathematics and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and a range of apprenticeships. We offer a wide range of non-accredited courses in creative studies, foreign languages, computing and health and fitness.

Approximately 8,000 learners each year access our programmes in around 140 locations
across the county including dedicated Adult Learning Centres, school premises, community centres and employer premises. Programmes are available daytime, evening and weekends for most of the year. We work with employers, both large and small, delivering apprenticeships up to Level 5.

There are courses for parents and carers with their children arranged by the Family Learning team. Family Learning works with parents and carers to give them the confidence and knowledge to support their children's learning. We work with parents and children from birth to 15 in Early Years settings, Family Centres, schools, and community venues. We run courses both for the parents on their own or intergenerational where their children attend.

The service is principally funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and we are subject to inspection by OFSTED.

About the role

The Early Years courses we offer focus on early reading/number and language development, with a focus on encouraging parents to interact with their children. Schools’ courses cover the Curriculum on English, maths and science.

We also run courses to support well-being. 2-hour sessions take place during mornings, afternoons and some evenings, mainly in term time, and may include children working with their parents in sessions. We also deliver many of our courses online via Google Meet and Google Classroom.

Hourly rate: £19.79 - £31.36 depending on qualifications.

About you

Are you enthusiastic about helping parents support their children’s learning?

Do you have knowledge and skills in any of the course subjects we offer?

Do you have an adult teaching qualification or are you a qualified Early Years practitioner or School teacher?

Do you wish to work flexibly from two hours per week? We are looking for people who could teach on average 4-6 hours per week.

If so, we would love to hear from you. For an informal discussion or any queries about the role, please contact Shani Bragg on shani.bragg@buckinghamshire.gov.uk or 07867 831433.
