Salary: £23,000 - £29,501

Location: Cambridge & hybrid working

Contract: Permanent, Full-time


We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.


You will be to working closely with our global team of Executive Publisher and Commissioning Editors (CE) to provide editorial and administrative support. This will include assisting in list management & development, to deputise in their absence where appropriate and ensure smooth running of the list by organising several key areas of content workflows for titles (such as sourcing covers/writing blurbs).


About the role


This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Academic and Professional books editorial department in the Humanities and Social Sciences team. As an Editorial Assistant you will communicate daily with both external contacts (Academic authors, contributors, volume/series editors) and a broad range of internal colleagues beyond the immediate commissioning/content teams (e.g., Finance, Legal services, Content Operations, Marketing & Sales).


Your accuracy and ability to facilitate efficient co-ordination and evaluate content before handover to achieve the best results for Cambridge and the Academic community are key for this role, as you will be working on a high number of projects at any one time and on your own initiative, so flexibility and juggling changing priorities are essential skills.


Other key accountabilities will be, but not limited to:

  • Working closely and coordinate daily with our ‘Indian operations coordinators (IOC)' on a variety of administrative tasks (e.g., contracts/review copies/payments/fees/3rd party permissions), to ensure efficient and timely arrangements are in place.
  • Updating missing or incorrect data on our internal database, as well as covering all aspects of the editorial process to ensure delivery dates and metadata is maintained accurately

About you


Alongside your strong written and verbal communication skills, you will bring to the team your excellent organisational and time management skills.


To be successful you will demonstrate:

  • Attention to details
  • Initiative to pick-up editorial operational challenges and troubleshoot them with relevant colleagues in other departments.
  • Proficient IT skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and e-mail.
  • Some office or administrative experience.

Good bachelors/first degree is an advantage but not essential.
