The role:

Are you an application support person looking for something different? This is an exciting opportunity to work for our forward-thinking Fire and Rescue Service.

Working as part of our Application Support Group (ASG) you will act as the subject matter expert for all CFRS applications, managing a set of business applications to ensure the effective operation, sustainability and optimisation of the Service’s Application Portfolio from conception to retirement. You will offer end user support to all CFRS employees via the ICT service desk and be involved in developing and delivering training to end users.

You will assist the service in the development of business applications, liaising with users over requirements management, software architecture, programming, software testing, software maintenance, change management, continuous integration, project management, and release management. In addition, you will implement software applications across the service being involved in the procurement process and assist with managing the supplier relationship.

We will look to you to have the following:

  • Fully IT proficient, including Windows, 365 Office and specialist packages
  • Experience in supporting business applications
  • Educated to A level, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships and maintain rapport with others - able to communicate in a friendly, open and constructive
  • Ability to interpret and explain complex issues to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience of providing support to customers and/or business users
  • Customer focussed and driven by fulfilment in reaching high standards and genuinely supporting the organisation to achieve its objectives
  • Starter/finisher – driven to see tasks through to successful completion
  • Approachable and adaptable - able to demonstrate willingness to develop and take on challenges; and to think creatively and logically to propose options and solutions
