Position Overview & Specifications

Professor/Reader in Occupational Therapy

Job description
Background

We seek an inspirational Professor or Reader in Occupational Therapy to harness the passion in our academic team and develop service and client-engaged, impactful research at Canterbury Christ Church University. This appointment comes as part of our wider investment in health. We are also currently recruiting for a Professor/Reader in Physiotherapy.

The Role

We welcome someone whose work fits with our research theme of ‘implementation and improvement’, and who focuses on co-producing and evaluating interventions that, through an occupational therapy lens, resolve real-world problems important to our service partners and the public. Consequently, the role involves building meaningful connections between our local NHS Trusts, social care partners, industry and the voluntary sectors. These will be the foundation for a coherent programme of research and will add value to our portfolio of education. We expect the postholder to provide a mix of professional and academic leadership across our networks, and within the University through mentoring our early career researchers, contributing to portfolio review and course design (especially our postgraduate pre-registration MSc), and supporting research into teaching.

The Person

We welcome someone with strong publications, and a sound understanding of the funding landscape – but above all, ideas, vision and enthusiasm. Our ideal candidate will know how to engage and enthuse people, whether they are students, clinicians, or fellow academics.

We offer a supportive working environment, friendly colleagues, flexible working opportunities and a relocation package. We are committed to equality and recognise the value of a diverse workforce. We also offer the chance to make a real difference. Our modern, dynamic University strives to transform lives through outstanding higher education and to enrich the communities we serve.

Canterbury Christ Church University truly welcomes fresh perspectives and new voices. We want you to bring the real you to work, so we are committed to building a genuinely inclusive working environment where everyone is welcomed and where everyone can have a true sense of belonging. Our spirit of community will help us to eliminate discrimination and will enable us all to thrive in a culture that is underpinned by fairness and justice. We therefore seek people to join us who will proactively support and shape this aim and contribute in their own unique way. If this is you, then we are waiting to hear from you.
