Position Overview & Specifications
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced support worker to work with care leavers 16+ in London. You will be working to support young people to develop their independent living skills at home and in the community. This includes supporting them in managing their accommodation, finances, and well-being. In addition, you will support our young people with education, employment, mental and physical health needs, housing related support whilst assisting them in making a successful transition towards independent living.
Therefore, we are looking for an engaging and passionate person who is a strong team player and is flexible in their approach. You should possess the skills to motivate young people to achieve their full potential and be a positive role model to the young people we support.
What we are looking for:
- Experience working with vulnerable young people and adults and an ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group.
- Knowledge of the issues facing this client group
- NVQ level 3 in Health & Social care or equivalent
- Experience working with young people in floating support, residential or youth work is essential.
- You will have knowledge of the Children's Act 1989 / 2004 & be familiar with child protection issues & procedures.
- Sound experience using Microsoft Office and/or similar programmes.
- The ability to carry out the role autonomously and complete tasks promptly and efficiently.
- Able to collect/monitor data and outcomes, utilising information recording and use of databases.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- A flexible, proactive and professional approach to your work.
Duties to include:
- Building supportive, trusting relationships with young people.
- Liaising with Local Authorities, Social Workers, Doctors, and other Care Professionals.
- Be visible in person and via phone, promoting yourself as the first point of contact for any queries. To effectively assist with the day-to-day running of the unit.
- To conduct a daily H&S check around of the entire unit, reporting any issues appropriately
- To provide day-to-day unit support, including move-in and assessing service users.
- Planning, monitoring, and carrying out key work sessions with Service users.
- To work flexibly across the organisation, which may include working in the community alongside other support workers providing support as and when required.
- To record and report any accidents, incidents and near-misses during the shift.
- To listen and respond to young people's concerns and/or complaints.
- Following safe working practices and adhering to workplace policy and procedures.
- Providing advice and guidance on finances, health, welfare benefits, housing options, and tenancy management skills.
- Working with external agencies and signposting the young people to the appropriate services for the identified need.
- Complete and provide monthly progress reports to Social Workers.
- To attend, as necessary, meetings and reviews of young people supported by the organisation.
- Working efficiently with other team members to handle the service caseload and administrative responsibilities.
- Engaging in learning and development activities to increase knowledge and skills.
