Shipping is a complex global industry and essential to the world’s economy. Shipbrokers play an important role within the industry, acting as intermediaries who negotiate the rates and terms between shipowners and charterers for the movement of goods around the world, as well as between the buyers and sellers of ships. Successful shipbrokers are industry experts, with strong commercial acumen. They are entrepreneurial and are good at identifying and developing innovative approaches and ideas. Clarksons Trainee Broker Programme offers you the opportunity to:

What you’ll be doing
During the programme, some of what you may be doing includes the opportunity to:

• support the day-to-day activities of the Brokers on the different desks

• maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients

• help to manage internal data flow of key market information

• maintain a database of sales activity

• undertake administrative tasks such as dealing with emails, assisting with contracts and correspondence

• help to field queries and establish/maintain effective relationships internally and externally

• maintain accurate records and documentation and assist with producing internal and external reporting

• help to conduct post fixture support in a prompt and efficient manner

• continue to develop knowledge and expertise

• attend meetings and events where required

• additional/ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business

• an initial 12-month fixed term contract with a possible further one-year extension
• rotational seat placements across different divisions
• accelerated development of technical, organisational and professional knowledge/skills
• full support system through manager, buddy, and programme manager
• cohort connection to other programme participants globally
• interaction with global colleagues
• assignments and business initiatives
