Position Overview & Specifications

Cornwall CAMHS is offering a new Developmental Post for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy. The successful applicant will initially be employed at Band 7, progressing into a Band 8a position after two years. Progression will be based on the successful completion of competencies. This post will be based in the in the West of the county, providing Child Psychotherapy to the Penzance and Redruth Locality Teams.

The successful applicant will be well supported in their development by senior Child Psychotherapists within the service. This will include the development of a set of individual competencies, agreed in consideration of their current level of experience and the step up to a Band 8a job description. Applications from Trainee Child Psychotherapists due to qualify in July 2023 are welcome.

Thanks to new investment, Cornwall CAMHS has expanded many of our teams and services continue to grow and develop. As a service, we are actively seeking to develop our therapeutic offer for children and young people, with exciting research taking place into how we can use our resource-rich natural environment to support our work.

We are looking for an ACP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with a broad range of experience, including work with children, young people and families who present with a high level of complexity and require skilled and multi-layered assessments and intervention.

To provide a range of specialist Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy interventions including Short Term Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (STPP), medium and long-term interventions, as well as State of Mind Assessments, observations, and inter-agency consultations. There may also be potential to offer more intensive psychotherapeutic work (twice or thrice weekly sessions) where clinical need arises.

An active presence and thoughtful contribution to the life of the locality team will be an important part of the Child Psychotherapist’s role. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the generic clinical work of the team including assessment, care co-ordination and the local CAMHS duty rota. They will attend multi-disciplinary team meetings regularly and provide supervision to colleagues who are interested in psychoanalytic thinking. The successful candidate will be encouraged to become involved in the team’s support of Trainee and Assistant Child Psychotherapists as they work towards progression to Band 8a.
