Position Overview & Specifications

We currently have a vacancy for a Community Phlebotomist working within the Bodmin & 3 Harbours Community Nursing Team and to work flexibly across the North locality when required.

Situated in the beautiful area of North East Cornwall we are busy, dynamic and forward thinking Community Nursing Team covering several General Practitioner surgeries. We are currently seeking to recruit a Community Phlebotomist, with a commitment to provide compassionate, holistic patient care, working flexibly across the area.

You must possess excellent communication and people skills; have the ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision, whilst being a committed member our supportive team. Ability to travel independently across the County to fulfil the requirements of the post is essential as this position will be visiting our housebound patients to take blood samples and incorporate urine testing and blood pressure checks as necessary. Experience would be desirable although not essential as full training can be given.

Regular training updates will be given to ensure high standards of care are maintained.

This is a lone worker post.

  • To assist in the delivery of clinical duties in patient’s own home under indirect supervision by a registered nurse or a senior health care Assistant.
  • To assist in the delivery of clinical care, planned and assessed by the registered nurses.• Regularly working without direct supervision, but as a member of the proactive nursing team.
  • To obtain blood and other relevant samples from housebound patients through either venous or capillary as requested for testing in the community.
  • To carry out clinical observations on patients recognising, recording and reporting all changes in patients condition to nursing staff.

  • To under take simple dressings as per the patients care plan whilst ensuring ANTT is followed. • To share responsibility of the cleanliness, care and maintenance of all the equipment in use by self and community nursing team.
  • To recognise the importance of health education and teaching patients and carers and inform nursing staff where this might be required.
