animal care technician

We have openings for a Seasonal Animal Keepers here at Safari Zoo, responsible for the care of the furry residents, the cleaning and maintenance of their enclosures and habitats. The role extends to include maintenance and display of the grounds, facilities, animal diet preparation, supporting public feeding sessions, manning public areas and cleanliness of non-public areas.

Examples of Duties

Principal Job Responsibilities:

• Provides care for animals
• Cleans and maintains habitats, related structures, and surrounding non-public areas.
• Prepares animal diets
• Perform daily observation of animals to identify normal and abnormal behaviors related to husbandry/health issues; coordinate with senior staff on animal training programs to facilitate husbandry behaviors.
• Communicate questions or concerns regarding medical/health issues of specimens in the collection to the Animal Manager, assisting with treatment as directed.
• Communicates with appropriate staff about food inventory to ensure stock is adequately maintained.
• Provides behavioral and psychological enrichment for animals in conjunction with the enrichment co-ordinator
• Communicate with visitors as needed for educational and behavioral/safety/legislative purposes
• Dispose of rubbish and debris in the zoo.
• Maintains landscaping and grounds for assigned areas including strimming ad weeding
• Services and maintains tools and equipment, and facilities, reporting issues as necessary to ensure smooth continuous operations
• Follow all safety rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Seasonal Keepers will not have access to keys or have the ability to move animals of any kind except under special circumstances as approved by the Health and Safety Co-ordinator and Animal Manager.
• Seasonal Keepers will only work with Category one Animals under direct supervision of Senior Keepers.

Job Type: Temporary contract
Contract length: 3 months

Salary: £7.49-£10.42 per hour
