Position Overview & Specifications

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Assistant Occupational Therapy Practitioner who will play a key role in supporting the registered Occupational Therapists within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health inpatient service.

Due to new investment in our Tier 4 Inpatient CAMHS Unit, Ty Llidiard, we have some fantastic opportunities with new therapy posts and an expansion to the workforce of the current therapies team.

Ty Llidiard is a 15 bedded Tier 4 General Adolescent Mental Health Unit with an extra care area, serving the population across South, East and West Wales. The unit has a full multi-disciplinary team, with a range of medical, nursing and therapeutic posts. The unit assesses and works with young people between the ages of 12 and 18 who are experiencing psychiatric disorders such as anorexia nervosa, clinical depression, self harming behaviours and early onset psychosis. The successful applicant will work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of care and treatment for children and young people.

This is an exciting time to join Ty Llidiard. We are also developing our vision and strategy of the unit with our staff around 4 C’s – Caring, Compassionate, Calm and Confident.

This role may involve working outside core hours (extended hours into the evening - for example, one evening per week until 20.00 - and possible weekend cover - for example, one 4 hour weekend session per fortnight).

The post holder will support the Occupational Therapy team within the MDT workforce - ensuring the delivery of an evidence-based, specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention service to children and young people in Ty Llidiard.

You will be supporting individuals in their recovery – working collaboratively with service users to achieve optimum levels of occupational performance and occupational balance in lifestyle management, motivation, interpersonal skills, cognitive skills, self-care, productivity (education, training or employment) and leisure areas.

Under direct supervision from a registered occupational therapist, you will contribute to agreed OT assessments and deliver intervention plans developed by the registered occupational therapy staff to support recovery, facilitate early discharge and identify post-discharge support needs.

You will adhere to governance arrangements across the occupational therapy team – meeting agreed competences, participate in performance reviews, working to all agreed local, national and professional standards. The post holder will participate in clinical supervision sessions with a named registered occupational therapist, and complete agreed competence based training within the first two years in post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
