Position Overview & Specifications
This is a replacement full time 10 session post offering 8 sessions DCC and 2 SPA sessions. SPA can be increased up to 3 sessions (and DCC proportionately reduced) subject to the post holder taking up departmental lead roles that attract additional SPA. Part time arrangements will be considered. The post holder will be based at PCH.
At present, all the Consultant Paediatricians in PCH excluding the Community Paediatricians contribute to the non-resident on-call rota and In-patient service week for paediatrics (consultant of the week). In addition, the ‘consultant of the week’ model is now implemented for the Neonatal unit. All consultants are expected to contribute to the above stated areas of service requirement. During the non-resident out of hours, consultants are responsible to provide cover for the General Paediatric ward and Neonatal unit (32 weeks and above model). Babies requiring continued intensive care / ventilation are retrieved by the Regional Neonatal Transport Team and taken to one of the Tertiary Units in South Wales. The non-resident Consultant has one tier 1 doctor and two tier 2 doctors providing resident cover.

- To provide clinical leadership in general paediatrics, Neonatal care and lead for Paediatric diabetes services in PCH.
- Sustain and develop diabetes services within CTMUHB collaborating closely with the all Wales diabetes network
- Provision of supervision of junior medical staff.
- Participate in the postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programme.
- Participate in clinical governance issues, which include medical audit and research.
- Participate in the consultant of the week system for general paediatrics at a frequency of 1:8 weeks.
- Participate in the consultant of the week system for Neonatal unit, 4 to 5 / year
- Provide on call off-site Consultant cover 1:9 frequency
