During these times of great upheaval and change, the Community Dental Service of CTMUHB has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for an individual with plenty of drive and vision, to go along with their obviously much needed clinical skills, someone who will have the opportunity to really make a tangible difference to the population served by our Health Board.
This post is based in Keir Hardie Health Park but also providing dental care across the localities.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team providing the full range of orthodontic dentistry working alongside, consultants, other specialists, dentists and a dental therapist.
The post holder will provide specialist dental care to orthodontic patients.
A driving licence is essential as there may be occasions when the post holder will be required to work in other fixed clinics.
The CDS is one of the largest salaried services in the UK with approximately 80 staff providing a diverse range of treatment to a widely dispersed population within CTM. Dental care is provided from 10 fixed clinics and a number of mobile dental units. The Directorate serves the valley communities in Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Bridgend areas.

Clinical
- To provide orthodontic treatment for patients with a dental health need referred from CDS practitioners and GDPs, as agreed under local commissioning arrangements.
- To work with CDS colleagues, including the Paediatric and Special Care Specialists/Consultants, in the provision of integrated care for patients. This will include special care patients and extraction advice for the GA service.
- To have an understanding of the post’s responsibility in relation to clinical governance, participating in clinical audit, peer review and continuing professional development. To take an active role in local, regional and national orthodontic audit for the improvement of services.
- To provide current specialist orthodontic advice to the management team of the CDS.
- To comply with all NHS policies and procedures.
- To take an active role in local in-service training programmes, including work with DF2s.
- To provide timely data information, with support from the administration team, thereby assisting in the assessment of service performance and ultimately service planning.
- To ensure that patients’ records are accurately and contemporaneously completed, both electronically and manually, following University Health Board (UHB) and Service policies.
- To undertake and direct the maintenance of orthodontic clinical records, including digital records, and their appropriate archiving.
- To participate in regular appraisal with the Line Manager in order to help identify training and development needs.
- To manage the CDS orthodontic clinics within financial constraints, liaising with appropriate linked clinical services, laboratory and equipment suppliers where necessary.
- You may be asked to perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.
