Position Overview & Specifications

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee to join our busy real estate team in either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

From our offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh the team extends the reach of DAC Beachcroft into the Scottish jurisdiction, offering seamless cross-border services for our clients in the UK. We offer clients deep local market knowledge in Scotland backed by full national and international support from across the firm.

The role will be in our Scottish real estate team with an opportunity to work with real estate colleagues both in Scotland and across England and Wales on nationwide projects.

Our Scottish real estate teams cover every aspect of transactional and contentious commercial real estate work, including in particular telecoms, development, investment, asset management, construction and landlord/tenant work. Clients include telecoms operators, property management and development companies, house builders, health trusts and government bodies (local and central), owner-occupiers and institutions, both in the UK and overseas.

Main Responsibilities

Our Trainees tell us that they enjoy the firm's collaborative working environment which reflects our open door policy and cultural principles of being supportive, creative, determined, and clear. There are also many opportunities to network with other Trainees and other colleagues across our business, and to be part of wider firm projects and initiatives.

The work expected of the role will largely be geared towards property litigation and will involve dealing with landlord/tenant asset management work, drafting pleadings and assisting with Court or Tribunal applications as well as the full service of commercial asset management property litigation support. Some knowledge of Scottish property law and/or experience of working in a real estate environment, particularly any experience in telecoms work would be helpful but is not essential. A genuine interest in real estate is though expected.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with a minimum 2:1 degree who has energy and ambition to make the most of their traineeship. In addition:

  • Be highly organised and a confident communicator with an outstanding eye for detail
  • Be interested in and willing to learn real estate law as required for the role
  • Be IT literate, with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and previous knowledge or experience of a case management system would be an advantage but not essential
  • Willingness to follow a process driven system, working within set parameters
  • Be team orientated, with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team
  • Have an ability to adopt a commercial perspective
  • Have some experience in working in a law firm either in a paralegal or administrative capacity and be looking for the next step to secure qualification
  • Have completed the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice
