Would you like to work in a busy, energetic PR team, driven by a mission to ensure every dog has a life worth living?

We’re looking for a PR Officer to support us in the Midlands and North of England region, with demonstrative experience of working in public relations and generating media coverage.

The Public Relations team sits within the Communications & Digital directorate. We help people to know, love and understand the charity and to take action to support the charity’s work. We use our understanding of Dogs Trust and the needs of our wide and varied audiences to produce impactful, creative, on-brand communications. Our strong media relations work is our focus, proactively selling in stories and reacting to enquiries.

Our Press Officers are strategically placed around the UK to ensure a geographical spread, each connected to a set of rehoming centres.

This role will be responsible for our busy Midlands and North of England region, and will be a hybrid role, with a combination of home working and working from one of our rehoming centres in that region. The role also involves occasional travel to other rehoming centres, and to our London offices. It also plays an active role in the out-of-hours press phone rota. As well as contributing to the day-to-day running of the press office, and driving PR activity attached to the dedicated region, this role will work towards achieving the wider objectives of the team on regional and national levels.

You’ll have worked as part of a busy press office function, handling reactive media enquiries, researching and preparing statements, produce media briefings and managing media visits.

You’ll have great organisation and time-management skills and excellent attention to detail, written and verbal communications skills. You’ll have a proven ability to make things happen, with an innate sense of urgency and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines. Crucially, you’ll have demonstrable experience of delivering KPIs on a variety of communications projects, using your initiative and project management skills, and a working knowledge of assisting with crisis management would be great.

Please note that this is a one-year fixed term contract opportunity.

To apply for this position, please send your CV and cover letter explaining your interest in and suitability for the role by clicking the APPLY NOW button. Candidates who are selected for interview will be required to complete a practical assignment.

At Dogs Trust we value diversity and we're committed to creating an inclusive culture. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, abilities and cultures and believe that a diverse workforce will help us to achieve our mission. Should you need any adjustments to the recruitment process, either at application or interview stage, please contact us on jobs@dogstrust.org.uk.
