Position Overview & Specifications

Carry out tasks delegated by Qualified Nursing Staff involving direct patient care, including investigation procedures and treatments.

  • Undertake assigned non-patient-based activities, including ordering of stock, preparation and tidying of clinical area
MAIN DUTIES:
  • Participate in the delivery of quality nursing care according to the care plans provided by qualified staff.
  • Ensure high standards of patient care in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate, up to date, contemporaneous records in accordance with Trust policies and NMC guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality in line with Trust policy and Caldicott principles.
  • Maintain standards of conduct and dress to sustain the public confidence.
  • Participate in general housekeeping duties to maintain the working environment.
  • Have knowledge of, and adhere to, all the policies and procedures incorporating health
and safety, COSHH and attending fire lectures, and the reporting of any accident or incident.

The Treatment Room Service in East Lancashire is a well led and dynamic service providing high quality care to adults and children. The service is recruiting into Band 3 Health Care Assistant to work within the Treatment Room Service delivering high quality and compassionate care to patients and their families in the home and care home environment. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across all the locality bases if required but will primarily be based in Ribblesdale locality. The role involves working autonomously with the support of the wider team to deliver planned care, and successful candidates will be able to demonstrate good problem-solving skills, adaptability, and resilience at interview.

The post holder must demonstrate professional standards of practice and personal qualities and behaviours as expected by the behavioural framework. The service is paperless and uses EMIS software. Car driver with access to a vehicle is essential.

MAIN DUTIES:

COMMUNICATION:
1. Liaise with nursing and non nursing colleagues to create good working relationships for the benefit of patients.
2. Ensure effective communication, verbal and written with multi-professional teams.
3. Collaborate with team members, in order to plan staff rotas, training activities and annual leave efficiently, ensuring baseline cover is maintained.
4. To attend and contribute to staff meetings.
5. Co-operate with the Treatment Room Team Sister, Clinical Team Leader and Matron regarding service needs, including the maintenance of safe staffing levels.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:
1. Participate in education and training programmes including induction programmes for new members of staff.
2. Seek to improve knowledge on all aspects of Treatment Room nursing.
3. Seek access to training and development opportunities
4. Attend and complete all core mandatory training as per Trust policy.
5. Take an active part in clinical supervision on a regular basis.
6. Contribute to the appraisal process.

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To be aware of and work within the quality initiatives of the Trust.
2. Collect and record information for data collection purposes and submit this promptly.
3. Contribute to the Trust’s Clinical Governance Agenda.
4. Support qualified staff in obtaining consumers’ views regarding the service.
5. To be receptive of and participate in new methods of working.
6. Report to the Clinical Team Leader any ideas for improving the treatment room nursing service.

7.To be pro-active and supportive in the development of the service.
1. Assist with meeting infection control objectives by maintaining safe sterilisation systems, monitoring of equipment and the transfer of specimens to the laboratory.
2. To be responsible for the care, maintenance and correct use of equipment and its return.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To maintain a high standard of care and to encourage patients/carers to participate in that care.
2. Carry out treatments, interventions and general nursing care as directed by qualified staff
3. Participate in the promotion of health and prevention of ill health.
4. Reinforce advice on the prevention of accidents in the home

5. Under the direction of qualified staff, work at all times to reduce risk, maximise quality of life and promote independence.
1. To report any changes in a patient’s condition or circumstances and summon senior support or the GP as necessary.
2. To assist team members with dependant patients as required.
3. To carry out other duties as required by the Trust.
4. To undertake phlebotomy clinic as required.
