Position Overview & Specifications
The role entails contributing to pre-diagnostic assessment including psychosocial history and school observations, for children 5-19 years who may have ADHD and/or other co-morbid conditions (e.g. ASD, tics, anxiety, behavioural and conduct difficulties). The role will involve medication support and ongoing medication management including assessment, providing advice and support to families and signposting or providing onward referrals to behavioural support services.
You will also liaise closely with a broad range of disciplines and agencies, including Education, social services, voluntary agencies and primary care.
The primary function of the post will be to contribute to diagnostic assessments of children and young people referred to the service. You will be working autonomously to conduct elements of the assessment, with support from the MDT. You will be responsible for prescribing and review of ADHD medication and managing nurse led clinics, including a clinic to transition young people to adult services.
This is a challenging role that includes offering sensitive support, advice to families, children and young people who have neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD) before, during and after diagnosis. Provide ongoing 1-1 healthcare, behaviour management advice within the post holders expertise.
You will be expected to have an understanding and experience of working with ADHD, but training and support will be provided. You should have a broad knowledge of general mental health conditions. You will be offered opportunities to develop both clinically and professionally within a supportive environment and encouraged to participate in service developments. Clinical supervision and a supported induction period are provided.
