Job description
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to help us develop the Environment Agency’s Incident Management (IM) service in Yorkshire. As Incident Advisor, you will provide advice and knowledge to shape, inform, and deliver the planning, preparation, and response to all types of incidents in Yorkshire.

The role will contribute to the tactical first response to incidents within office hours in the capacity of an Area Base Controller or Cell Lead. The role will also provide support to other duty officers through assurance of response and ensure that situational awareness is shared with oncoming duty officers.

This is a technical role that leads the delivery of a specific incident management portfolio of activity. Typical responsibilities include:
  • Providing technical leadership and producing local operational documentation such as processes, operational instructions, and other
information to support incident management ways of working.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to build resilience and promote collaboration.
  • Planning and monitoring progress of work within the team as a lead for their portfolio to ensure progress is in line with defined plans.
  • Identify risks to the delivery of priorities, taking appropriate action to resolve issues.
The team
The Area Incident Team is the heart of incident management in the Environment Agency in Yorkshire, ensuring that we are ready to deal with all types of flooding and environmental incidents. We help our incident responders to become trained and capable to perform their roles, we maintain our dedicated incident rooms and systems, and we work closely with our partners through the Local Resilience Forum to protect our communities and the environment.
Experience/skills required
You will require in-depth understanding of the incident management cycle and the Environment Agency’s role as a Category One responder under the Civil Contingencies Act. You will need to be agile in your approach to how you work and be able to adapt quickly to dynamic situations. To be successful you will need to be able to show evidence of:
  • Sound knowledge of the different types of incident risks that we respond to.
  • Being confident in engaging with and influencing our stakeholders.
  • A good understanding of risk management.
  • Experience in delivering training, building networks, and effective at influencing others to secure good environmental outcomes.
  • Incident experience to support the team’s delivery of tactical first response.
Contact and additional information
There will be occasions when working from an office location will be essential, and occasions when it will be optional. You will need to be able to travel regularly to our incident rooms at our offices in York and Leeds.

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, so please include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

Interviews will take place in person, and anticipated to take place between 18th and 26th May 2023.
