Job description
Water is essential for life. Our health, environment and economy depends on this precious resource.
Increasing pressure on our water environment from climate change and population growth means that managing the quality and quantity of water in our lakes and rivers has never been more important.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with good communication, and information management skills to support our role of water planning for the East Midlands.
Supported by our Specialists, you will help to protect and improve the quantity and/or quality of water available for wildlife, people and future generations. You will do this by supporting workloads such as:
  • Advising on abstraction licence, and water discharge activity permit applications
  • responding to enquiries and requests for data and information
  • supporting the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP)
  • contributing to drought planning and response
  • supporting the technical requirements of the Water Framework Directive
  • providing technical administrative support to other team members
  • recording data and information
  • catchment planning.
The team
Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) is predominantly a water planning team with specialists in water resources, water quality and river basin planning.
Working with area operational teams, national policy makers and other stakeholders such as water companies, we produce the environmental plans that drive East Midland’s area priorities.
Our friendly team of advisors are at the heart of environmental decision making, facilitating integrated actions to solve complex problems.
Experience/skills required
Good organisational skills/discipline and the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work.

Experience of translating guidance and instructions into local delivery.

Able to work under own initiative and as part of a larger, cross-functional/multidisciplinary team.

Able to support working groups and organise/facilitate effective meetings.

Good research/analysis skills, supporting an ability to make proportionate, evidence-based inferences/proposals from information.

Experience of gathering, maintaining and quality-assuring data/information.

Sensitive to the needs of the internal and external customers and able to deliver outcomes through these.

Ability to convey information to technical and non-technical audiences alike.

Knowledge and experience in one or more of these subject areas would be highly desirable: water quality planning, water resource management, hydrology, Geographical Information Systems.
Contact and additional information
The information you supply about the capabilities will be used for interview selection, so ensure you demonstrate your skills and experience in the information you supply. A copy of our "EA capability dictionary" can be viewed by searching online.

The role is based at the Nottingham Environment Agency office although there may be opportunity to be based at one of our other area offices, and there is flexibility to work from home for a proportion of time.
