Position Overview & Specifications

First Rail is one of the UK's most experienced rail operators, carrying more than 345m passengers across three franchises (Great Western Railway, South Western Railway and Avanti West Coast) and our open access operators (Hull Trains and Lumo). We operate all types of passenger railways - intercity, commuter, regional and sleeper services.


What is the role?

You will support Operating Companies in the development and delivery of all their ERTMS related project deliverables. Lead and direct ERTMS change management teams for all non-engineering related business change activities. Where required, you will provide project support to all FirstGroup Rail Operators within the scope of your experience.


Main Responsibilities
  • Work with Operating Companies to develop project specific Business Readiness Plans.
  • Strategic management of the ERTMS delivery team.
  • Support Operating Companies with general ERTMS related project issues.
  • Lead engagement with key external and internal stakeholders on project outputs.
  • Support Operating Companies with ERTMS project related change activities.
  • Provide operational support to all FirstGroup Rail operators on other projects as required

Person Specification

Education

Educated to degree level or with more than 5 years experience in a senior management role.

A formal safety management qualification (equivalent to NEBOSH General Certificate) or five years rail industry risk management experience.

Formal Project Management qualification. (Membership of APM is advantageous)

IRO Membership is advantageous.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Sound understanding and experience of change control and safety assurance processes.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence decision makers and the behaviour of front-line employees.

Ability to work on own initiative, self-motivated and able to set and achieve demanding targets and objectives, and report upon them.
