Position Overview & Specifications

Engineering Manager

We are currently looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum Degree and ideally a higher qualification in Engineering or Physics, with strong knowledge of systems engineering, electromechanical design, and product development experience. Additionally, the candidate should have a minimum of 5 years' experience in Engineering or Technical Management.

As an Engineering Manager, the candidate should have the following professional skills:

  • Recognised capability in the engineering of systemised products, understanding modular design.
  • 10+ years of engineering product development demonstrating a knowledge of product lifecycles and business process lifecycles related to customer engineering.
  • Project planning expertise and ability to commit and deliver to a detailed plan, including task management tracking.
  • Experience in budget and cost estimation planning for an engineering department, or development activity.
  • Ability to author or review customer and product proposals to ensure they are specific, deliverable and risks are understood, characterised and mitigated.

The candidate should also have a proven capability and knowledge in the application of legal and commercial compliance frameworks for systemised products, including UKCA, CE, UL, and CCC. Additionally, the candidate should have a capability in HazOp, HazID, FMEA, or other safety and reliability methods to characterise development. The candidate should have a history of using quality tools in problem solving, 8D, Ishikawa, and leading quality improvement activities. The candidate should also have an evidencable history of Critical Thinking and be able to advise, direct and challenge an Exec using robust argument, objective data to ensure that decisions are evidence-based.

The Engineering Manager should also have experience with personal development, coaching, mentoring, recruitment, and performance management.

  • Managing Complexity: Strong diagnostic and problem-solving capability, Excellent analytical skills & attention to detail, Makes sound decisions under pressure.
  • Innovation: Able to direct the business by identifying solutions in advance of trends. Ability to think creatively.
  • Planning & Deliver of Results: Deliver on targets and commitments, goes the extra mile, analyses setbacks and mistakes and drives continuous improvement. Able to define and implement new processes to overcome business problems. Flexibility of thought and action, whilst maintaining a critical focus on key tasks.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Networks well inside and outside the business, communicates company-wide, able to work on own initiative and as a member of a team. Seeks collaboration to drive forward business goals. Strongly motivational.
