Position Overview & Specifications

OUR IMPACT
We work at the intersection of finance and law, providing counsel and advice that support activities across the firm. We handle litigation and arbitration, perform research and due diligence, aid in financing and legal filings, deal with contracts and intellectual property rights that show our commitment to clients, shareholders, and regulators. Whether you’re an experienced attorney or a quick learner with a strong interest in financial law coupled with critical thinking skills, our dynamic group might be right for you.
ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a lawyer to provide day-to-day coverage of the Goldman Sachs ETF Accelerator business. The ideal candidate will have general regulatory and/or investment funds experience, ideally including exchange traded funds (ETFs). The role will be based in either London or Paris, and will involve advising on the regulation, establishment, management, governance and marketing of ETFs (including equity, debt, and other asset class funds), outsourcing arrangements and ETF trading matters. The lawyer will support senior stakeholders across business and control-side teams with all aspects of this new business, including identifying legal and reputational risks, managing external counsel, negotiating agreements, participating on firm committees, and developing policies, procedures, and other governance materials. Given the fundamental developments in the regulations globally applicable to the firm’s businesses, a key component of the role will also include contributing to the analysis of, and formulation of strategic responses to, shifting legal and regulatory frameworks.

This is a role within the GS EMEA Global Banking & Markets Public legal team, and will sit within the firm’s EMEA Equities legal coverage. You will work closely with the Goldman Sachs ETF Accelerator business, as well as with multiple other stakeholders, including other lawyers across the legal division, compliance, internal audit and operations. As a global financial institution, Goldman Sachs provides the opportunity to work with colleagues in multiple locations across the globe, including Europe, the U.S. and Asia.

OUR CULTURE

As a division we are focused on our people and their development and are committed to creating an environment that is diverse and inclusive. We offer numerous training and career development opportunities including an ongoing legal training programme, divisional mentoring schemes and a people development committee tasked with providing tangible tools to help manage and develop careers. The division also has a number of active and varied committees including the Diversity, Pro Bono, Charity and Social Committees and encourages participation in the Women’s, Black and LGBTQ+ firmwide affinity networks.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 3 years post qualification experience in a law firm or in-house, covering general regulatory and/or investment funds, with experience advising on ETFs preferable but not essential
  • Qualification as a lawyer, preferably in the UK, Ireland or Luxembourg
  • Experience advising listed equity and/or fixed income investing and trading for funds, and/or the application of the UCITS Directive, AIFMD and MiFID to investment funds, with a working knowledge of the listing requirements for funds in major European jurisdictions helpful but not essential
  • Dynamic and pro-active approach, with an intellectual curiosity that will enable you to develop within the role and effectively identify legal issues and/or risks
  • Team oriented, with the ability to work within a collegiate environment with multiple stakeholders across different locations
