Position Overview & Specifications

Please see this exciting opportunity to work as a Senior Occupational Therapist in the rehabilitation Division. We offer a pathway of care which includes a comprehensive holistic assessment of people's strengths and needs in order to formulate meaningful goals. These goals include developing engagement with services, understanding and coping with symptoms, maximising functioning and independence through development and maintenance of skills and activities of daily living.

The successful candidate will play a central role within the MDT to ensure high quality OT provision and recovery focussed care is delivered to our service users within rehabilitation.

The role involves providing specialist assessment, advice and input in regards to individuals occupational functioning, goal setting and promotion of social inclusion as part of service user recovery.

The successful candidate will offer leadership to Band 5 Occupational therapists and Occupational therapy assistants covering two of our rehabilitation units. Copeland is Rehabilitation High Dependency Unit and Bramley Street is Community Rehabilitation and Acute Step-Down Service both situated in Salford.

The rehab division offers supportive opportunities to work with division with Occupational Therapy forum to support delivery of Occupational Services within rehab, access peer support and develop practice.

The post holder should aim to promote the independence and wellbeing of service users; assist social inclusion and valued community presence and enable the widest possible expression of chosen lifestyle.

You will use Occupational Therapy principles to assess, plan and implement interventions for designated case load. You will also identify and support the development and delivery of both therapeutic individual and group interventions to facilitate recovery.

The post holder will provide specialist knowledge and skills to the MDT to support understanding of service user functioning and to optimise independence in activities of daily living. You will have the opportunity to assisting the leadership team in service development and support the development and supervision of Occupational Therapy teams.

Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 6,400 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 160 locations.

We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond

The rehab division provide inpatient and community services across the GMMH footprint. Our MDT include Medical staff, Nursing staff, Occupational therapists, Psychologists, support workers, specialist housing support.

We offer individualised and personalised care through a recovery focused approach in order to maximise the person's optimum functioning and full potential. In order to achieve this we embrace a positive risk taking approach in order to offer service users choice and control in their care incorporating a harm reduction approach if appropriate. We strive to involve carers/family wherever possible and offer specialised support include peer support to instil hope for recovery.

We will strive to understand our service users stories and make sure all our services are trauma informed.

We aim to assess and enhance service users willingness and readiness to engage in their recovery journey including identifying and working together to overcome barriers.

To demonstrate high-level communication skills with service users who may have complex emotional, physical and psychological conditions.

To establish and maintain robust communication networks with service users, carers, team members, other health care and social care workers and external agencies.

To be a full member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and to participate in clinical decision making to determine most appropriate management plans for all service users under the team.

To be involved in risk management plans which identify early warning signs and triggers to ensure timely and proactive response.

To undertake and be responsible for the assessment of rehabilitation referrals for those who have been referred for rehabilitation input.

To work with clients to identify Occupational Therapy goals as part of overall care plan, using specialist mental health and OT assessment tools.

To undertake occupational therapy assessments, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the service users in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.

To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions in collaboration with the service user, using graded activity and service user strengths to achieve therapeutic goals.

To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for service users with multiple needs in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of the intervention.

To assess, provide, fit and demonstrate aids to daily living and make recommendations for larger equipment and adaptations to Social Services OT’s.

Provide specialist resource to the MDT in regard to service users occupational functioning, goal setting and promotion of social inclusion as part of service user recovery.
