Health Care Assistant

Guildowns is a forward-thinking university-linked, teaching and training NHS GP group practice in Guildford, providing care across four sites to over 24,000 patients. Our aim is to provide a high standard of health care to patients with courtesy, friendliness and efficiency.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Healthcare Assistant to join our team. You must have a keen interest in working within General Practice and be aware of the role General Practice plays within Primary Care. Previous experience within General Practice is desirable.

It is essential you are able to confidently perform ECG's, diabetic foot checks and paediatric bloods.

Duties and responsibilities include the following but not inclusive:

• Wound care and dressings
• ECG recording
• Diabetic foot checks
• Severe Mental Illness (SMI) health checks
• Learning Disability (LD) health checks
• INRs and Warfarin monitoring
• Phlebotomy (Adult and Paediatric)
• Doppler/ABPI Assessment
• Chaperoning duties
• Blood Pressure checks (manual and digital)
• Administration of certain vaccinations/injections under Patient Specific Direction (PSD)
• Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
• Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
• Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
• Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
• Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
• Perform weekly cleaning of medical equipment and rooms in line with the practice’s infection control policy
• Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
• Assist with the recall of patients for management of long term conditions including; Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Hypertension, etc.

Full time and part time applicants considered.

£12 - £14 per hour, commensurate with experience.
