Role Overview & Responsibilities

Hillside Animal Sanctuary - Veterinary Unit Assistant

We are currently seeking to recruit a full-time Veterinary Unit Assistant, based at Frettenham.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist in the veterinary care of sick, injured and retired animals at the sanctuary including, horses, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and various small animals, including, rabbits, guinea-pigs, ferrets, poultry. Many of the animals have special requirements due to old age, poor health or mistreatment in the past.

Qualifications and Experience

Must possess experience of working with horses and small or large animals.

A current clean Full Driving Licence is essential, with experience of towing horse-boxes/trailers definite advantage

Possession of GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths desirable

Qualities/Skills

Must possess a genuine interest in animal welfare

Works effectively within a team environment

Understanding of Health and Safety.

Has a flexible and practical “hands-on” approach to work

Remains calm and in control when managing difficult situations

Eager to learn and willingly undertakes new tasks

Takes pride in work and ensures duties are carried out effectively within required time-frames, with minimum supervision

Excellent time-keeping and attendance to work
