Our Borders and Trade Team at HM Revenue & Customsare looking for someone that is experienced in data analysis and enjoys finding solutions to difficult and complex issues, collaborating with various stakeholders and building strong partnerships.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed Service Ownership function within the Operating Model team as a Business Data Insights Analyst.

You will join a small but expert sub-team to build and maintain the border Operating Model. This is a framework which takes data inputs from a variety of sources across the key component parts of our operation (process, data, systems, capabilities, people) to create costed views of live and future interim states of the border operation.

You will collaborate within the team to establish the current live state of data across the Borders & Trade landscape, and establish how the live Operating Model will function as well as developing how we can display potential future states.

You will work hand-in-hand with the Service Ownership team to understand the pipeline of change to define and design our future state, ensuring that it is operationalises our customs vision and strategy. You will need to translate requirements from the Service Ownership team into solutions of how to visually display the insight required from the model.

You will become an expert within the Operating Model team in terms of understanding, manipulating and representing data, and contribute with ideas for the evolution of the tool to make it the most valuable it can be.

Bringing your strong analytical and data skills, you will be comfortable in interpreting data and converting it into a digestible format for collaborators and leaders. You will have a passion for problem solving and will be required to attack challenges creatively.

Person specification

  • Support the building and maintenance of the Operating Model in collaboration with all members of the sub-team.
  • Understand, absorb and manipulate data to produce insight.
  • Support the design of future states with the Service Ownership team, and reflect this in our Target Operating Model, driving us clearly to our vision.
  • Be a key part of sprints, work-packages and workshops relating to the development of the tool, always driving for continuous improvement.
  • Take the lead on deep dives into understanding data feeds, translating sophisticated information into a digestible format within the framework of the tool.
  • Find creative solutions to challenging problems and be a supportive team member.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, both those in service of and being provided a service by the model.

Essential Criteria:

  • Deep data analysis experience and skills.
  • Experience of working in a programme/project management.
  • Experience of working across a wide range of collaborator and stakeholder interests, with the ability to engage, influence and build strong partnerships.

Desirable criteria:

  • Knowledge of customs (inc. systems and operating functions).
