Position Overview & Specifications
We are looking for an energetic laboratory services assistant to work across our microbiology and chemistry teams to support scientists in basic laboratory tasks including cleaning of laboratory glassware, media making and general microbiology lab duties. All training will be provided.
We are also open to people wanting to work part-time (minimum 4 hours every morning).
The position is based on site in Milton Park, Abingdon.
The role
- Clean laboratories, equipment and glassware
- Waste disposal, autoclave and glasswasher use
- Monitor stock levels of consumables used in the labs
- Calibrate and maintain general lab equipment such as pipettes, pH meters and balances
- Preparation of various microbiology growth media: broths, agar plates, etc.
- Sampling microbiology cultures
Who are we looking for?
- A-levels/BTEC background (we are not looking for anyone with a degree for this position)
- Experience in any laboratory environment – microbiology experience would be an advantage but all training will be given.
- A high attention to detail and be numerate.
- Adaptability and enthusiasm.
- Able to follow written procedures and perform routine tasks, as well as a good standard of written and spoken English.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work well in a team.
- Experience in use of MS Office programs such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
