The laboratory is surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the Carmarthenshire coast with excellent transport links via the M4 to Swansea, Cardiff and beyond. All in all a great place to work, to live, to raise a family and to achieve a more relaxed life work balance.
The successful candidate will be primarily based at the Glangwili General Hospital site within the Carmarthenshire Division of Hywel Dda University Health Board which comprises of Prince Philip Hospital and Glangwili General Hospital but may be expected to work across both sites as required.
The laboratory provides services in Haematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry with imminent plans to create a combined Blood Science laboratory. The site runs a fully automated Roche Cobas analysers for Biochemistry, plus Siemens Advia analysers for Haematology, Sysmex CS 2500 analysers for Coagulation and Ortho Vision platforms for Blood Transfusion.
The individual should possess either the IBMS Specialist portfolio or equivalent experience. However applicants who are working towards HCPC registration or recently completed their registration are encouraged to apply and if successful, will be appointed under Annex 21 rules whereby 70% of the top of Band 6 will be payable in first 12 months, then 75% from 12 months to 24 months. Applicants would be supported to develop their competencies required to fulfil the role within 2 years. Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.
To effectively communicate information, advice, instruction and professional opinion to colleagues and Pathology Service users in both primary and secondary care.
The department operates a contractual shift pattern supporting Round the Clock Services, and out of hours working on the Haematology/ Blood Transfusion rota will be part of this role.

Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
