Position Overview & Specifications

Financial Controller

Reporting into the Director of Finance, we have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Financial Controller to join the IoD.


This role can be based remotely across the UK, some travel may be required to London.


What you’ll be doing


  • Oversight of Management Accounts production including review of accruals, revenue recognition and accounting assumptions (Management accounts prepared by Equiom).
  • Providing insightful management information to the management team, including performance and variance analysis.
  • Supporting the FD on delivery of information for the Board and governing committees as appropriate.
  • Reviewing processes to ensure these remain fit for purpose and maintaining a strong controls environment.
  • Supporting the FD on delivery of strategic projects.
  • Maintaining accurate cashflow forecasts and reporting.
  • Managing production of Budget and reforecasts; to include appropriate challenge and support for assumptions.

  • You will have strong interpersonal skills, able to build strong relationship with key stakeholders, including at a managerial and board level.
  • You will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to persuade, influence and challenge constructively at all levels.
  • You have will a problem solving mentality, with the ability to determine root cause of issues and recommend solutions.
  • You will be a motivated and positive self-starter, with a hands-on attitude and inquisitive nature.


The successful candidate


Knowledge & skills


  • You will be highly organised with meticulous attention to detail.
  • You will have experience with system optimisation and integration.
  • You will have experience of working in a PLC governance environment, including board reporting.
  • You will have the ability to drive change and articulate benefits to stakeholders.


Qualifications & experience


  • Qualified Accountant with 2+ year PQE (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Experience in both a PLC and SME environment.
  • Experience in a broad Financial Management role such as Finance Manager, Finance Business Partner or Financial Controller.
  • Experience of acting in accordance with the IoD’s key values, Teamwork, Leadership, Agility & Respect.
