Position Overview & Specifications
We have an exciting opportunity for you to develop your leadership, decision making and clinical skills whilst obtaining a Specialist Practice Qualification in District Nursing. This programme will enable these advanced skills, and encourage your personal development by engaging you in debate, critical analysis and reflection.
The current modernisation agenda of the NHS and particularly primary care requires nurses to work flexibly and collaboratively, make sound professional judgements, and provide skilled critical and sensitive action which is responsive to patient need.
We have opportunities for innovative nurses to undertake the PGDip in Advancing Nursing Practice (DN Specialist Qualification).
- You will be a Registered Nurse working in a community setting.
- You will need to hold a BSc (Hons) or evidence of post registration study.
- You must meet the University entry requirements.
- You will be able to demonstrate sound leadership skills and have a commitment to working in the community.
All course fees are funded through Health Education Wessex. Salary support is available and will be negotiated at interview.
15 hours per week study contract and the rest of your contracted hours will be with your usual workplace.

Job Purpose
To successfully meet the academic and practical competencies set within the framework of the University. To actively participate in the course completing all assigned assessments.
Job Statement
- Academic: Whilst participating on the academic course the post holder will aspire to achieve the skills of advanced assessment, management, leadership, mentorship and, where applicable, nurse prescribing through the standards of education.
- Practice: Using present clinical skills, develop relevant competencies (within your sphere) to demonstrate skills as a specialist practitioner.
- Work within the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC 2002) guidelines and scope of professional practice
