Position Overview & Specifications

Councils have a critical role to play in the success of the Homes for Ukraine scheme and are uniquely placed to support local communities to offer Ukrainian guests the warmest possible welcome to the UK.

Guests will be able to live and work in the UK for up to three years and access benefits, healthcare, employment, and other support. As part of this support, we are recruiting Advice and Support Workers to work with the Ukrainian refugees for up to a year.

Workers will primarily be required to work across specific areas but must have flexibility to work county wide as required.

You will be flexible and customer-oriented with confidence to provide direct advice to Ukrainian refugees being resettled in Kent .

This key role will be the first point of contact with the Council and you will undertake the initial assessment of both children and adults and ensure the host environment is appropriate as well as providing ongoing support. You must be able to recognise safeguarding concerns, provide, information, advice, advocacy and guidance across a range of issues, including (but not limited to) welfare benefits, housing, health and wellbeing services, education, English language provision and employment.

You will be solutions focused with the ability to solve complex problems faced by families and individuals.

Excellent communication and IT skills are essential as the role requires the postholder to be able to work with the families, as well as a variety of KCC departments and partner organisations. It will also involve organising group activities and awareness sessions within the district.

You will be required to travel in a timely way to attend planned and unplanned visits. When you are not out in the community you can work from a KCC office or at home.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This role is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Interviews are scheduled to take place week commencing Mid April 2023, although this is subject to change.
