Position Overview & Specifications

Journal Editorial Assistant

Kew Bulletin is an international peer reviewed journal owned by Kew and publishing original research in taxonomy, systematics and conservation of vascular plants and fungi from throughout the scientific community.

The editorial assistant post will help the journal to more rapidly publish papers in Kew Bulletin, especially those describing new species. The post will be the first point liaison with authors, using the online editorial system Editorial Manager, processing incoming papers, assisting with the administration of the review process, undertaking copyediting, proofreading, to support the rapid and timely publication of accepted papers, and preparing necessary reports as requested.

Reporting to the Editor in Chief of Kew Bulletin in Kew Science, this role has dotted line/matrix reporting to the Head of Kew Publishing (Kew’s publishing house) within the Marketing and Commercial Enterprise directorate (MCE), which exists to engage both specialists and the general public in Kew’s work and to raise income.

Our 350+ scientists in Kew Science work collaboratively and globally, to understand and protect biodiversity and to discover sustainable solutions to some of our biggest global challenges.

This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.


The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a leading plant science institute, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and major visitor attraction. Our mission is to understand and protect plants and fungi for the well-being of people and the future of all life on Earth.

The salary will be £28,249 - £30,570 per annum (pro rata), depending on skills and experience.
