Position Overview & Specifications

Job description
The Qatar Centre for Global Banking & Finance is a research centre dedicated to the study of central banks and the challenges they face in the global environment. It aims to develop cutting-edge research in all areas of central bank policymaking, ranging from monetary policy to financial stability and regulation. The QCGBF is seeking to recruit a fixed-term professor in the field of banking and finance to play a significant role in raising and contributing to the centre’s profile.
The successful candidate will have a world-leading, demonstrable reputation in the field of finance and central banking with an outstanding track-record of research. The QCGBF will provide the opportunity for the candidate to continue with their own research, while lending their expertise to the delivery of the Centre’s activities.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 12 months
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities
  • To lead the QCGBF’s research in the area of Monetary Policy and Central Banking, Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability, Crypto Instruments and Systemic Risk.
  • To contribute to the QCGBF profile and reputation both through collaborative research and via our events programme, including speaking on panels and helping us to organise workshops.
  • To contribute to the intellectual life of the school and its community of scholars, students and/or alumni.
  • To direct and contribute to the design and delivery of the MSc in Financial Policy & Regulation, providing guest lectures as appropriate.
  • To direct the design and delivery of donor-defined activities, including executive education and relevant events.
  • To contribute to the academic leadership of the Qatar Centre as requested by the Director.
The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
Skills, knowledge, and experience
Essential criteria
1. Significant evidence of world-class standing in the discipline of finance and central banking and an exceptional track-record of publishing in top-tier journals.
2. Demonstrable evidence of developing and leading research projects in the areas of monetary policy and financial stability policy.
3. An extensive international network within the field of central banking, financial regulation and finance.
4. Experience of educational delivery at postgraduate and executive level.
5. Willingness to collaborate with colleagues in the group, the wider Business School and the College.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience of monetary or financial stability policy in practice via being or having been a member of a policy-making or policy-advising body at a leading central bank or international policy institution.
