The CVAT and Nutrition Nursing Team is made up of 10 Specialist Nurses and 1 Assistant Practitioner and 2 Health Care Assistants - one of which could be YOU! We provide a service to both inpatients and outpatients focusing on admission avoidance in our Nutrition Rapid Access Clinic. We are an established team who work together closely and deal with the day to day pressures with positivity and high levels of energy.

As our senior HCA you will work together with our specialist nurses, assistant practitioner and HCA to provide the very best nutritional and vascular access care to patients. The CVAT and Nutrition Teams are core teams of the Integrated Nutrition and Communication Services who also work closely with Dietetics, SLT and TACT.

Under the supervision of the Team Leaders and Specialist Nurses, you will be responsible for providing a range of clinical and personal care to patients which includes: personal care (including pressure area care and toileting), supporting patients through bedside central line insertions, assisting patients with care needs in clinic, undertaking physical observations and blood sugars, removal of venflons, assessing skin integrity alongside other clinical tasks. You will also be responsible for organisation, ordering and stock rotation of clinical equipment.

Within the team, we are passionate about expanding our knowledge and skills and you will have the opportunity to assist with training and education for the ward teams and undertake audits for both PICC line’s and NG tubes. You will also have the opportunity to undertake further education and training to provide service development to both CVAT and Nutrition Teams

  • Meeting and welcoming patients and carers on their arrival to clinic and assisting with their personal needs
  • Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards
  • Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching eg: Urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs, blood sugars
  • Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
  • Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Maintain and develop own competence
  • Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager
  • Stock ordering and rotation. Participation in audits for the department. Monitoring and sending out equipment to community patients.
