Position Overview & Specifications

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Renal Home Therapy Service in South Cumbria. We have recently expanded our service to open a new home dialysis training facility based at Westmorland renal centre (Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal). We have a vacancy for a Band 5 Staff nurse and are seeking individuals who would like to expand their knowledge in renal services or develop new skills. The post involves the on-going education and training of patients and relatives on peritoneal or home haemodialysis to enable them to dialyse independently at home.

You will also be highly motivated with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and have the ability to work independently as a lone worker and within a multi-disciplinary team setting.

The role requires you to work across all sites of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust at Chorley and Preston Hospitals. The main site being Westmorland Dialysis unit

You will be required to work across the hospital-based training unit at Westmorland renal centre as well as the community setting covering Lancashire and South Cumbria. Unit opening hours are 08:00-16:00 Monday to Friday. Although this is a new service and shift times may change as the service develops.

The service also provides an acute drop-in service for the home dialysis patients. The Home Therapies Kendal team will work closely with the Home Therapies team based in Lancashire at Chorley District Hospital.

Being able to travel is essential as the community setting covers a large geographical area.

You will also be highly motivated with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and have the ability to work independently as a lone worker and within a multi-disciplinary team setting.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines.

Support and provide patient education and health promotion

Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.

Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation

Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.

Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
