Position Overview & Specifications

Are you enthusiastic about providing meaningful activities for patients on acute mental health wards?

We are looking for dedicated and motivated individuals to join our teams across the inpatient acute wards as an activity co-ordinator. The acute inpatient service is excited to have the opportunity to advertise for these newly funded roles and welcome you into our team.

You will be working along side our multi-professional teams which consist of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Nurses, Health support workers, Clinical psychologist, Consultant psychiatrists, peer support workers and our practice development team.

You will predominantly be working with the OT and OTA to provide meaningful and therapeutic group activity planning and scheduling for the ward identified. This role will include supporting the facilitation of activities by working with the wider MDT, identifying and sourcing resources for the ward, and promoting the activities to the patient group on the ward.

The roles will be based at the Becklin and Newsam centre acute inpatient wards. We have 2 female wards and 3 male wards consisting of 22/21 beds for people who present with acute and complex mental health difficulties. The ward provides 24 hour care to manage risk and promote recovery for clients who have experienced deterioration in their mental state.
  • Working with the Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistant to create weekly groups activity schedules for the ward
  • Facilitation of activity based groups
  • Promotion of activities on the ward within the patient group
  • Identify and source resources for the ward activities
  • Take a lead for maintaining a therapeutic environment in the activity based rooms (organising, maintaining supplies, welcoming and inviting, creative use of space).
  • In collaboration with the activity leads on the ward keep a record of number of groups running and attendees.
  • Take on the link role for volunteers attending the ward (Pat dog, inkwell, sports activities).
