Job description

We are seeking to appoint a qualitative research assistant in psychology, health or the wider social sciences to work across two exciting studies. The first is a new project, funded by the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme which is concerned with the development of a novel patient decision aid to help young males with cancer make choices about preserving their fertility. The research study is being carried out as a collaboration between Leeds Beckett University, and the University of Edinburgh (with Professor Rod Mitchell, MRC Centre for Reproductive Health, RfPB Project Co-Lead) and builds on the Cancer, Fertility and Me programme of work. The second is an existing project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), which started in June 2022. This study is the largest ever study into online sperm donation which is exploring the relationships involved in online sperm donation, what influences sperm donation journeys, and what the impacts are. This is also a collaboration between Leeds Beckett University and the Universities of Manchester, Sheffield, Sussex, and the West of Scotland, and Pillowfort Productions.

This research assistant will be responsible for delivering systematic reviews, recruiting study participants, and carrying out qualitative data collection and analysis. The role will involve you supporting the teams responsible for ethical applications, patient and public involvement tasks and liaising with relevant third sector organisations supporting the studies. The role will also involve writing and preparing content for protocols, research reports, and study outputs and so excellent word processing and IT skills are essential. Knowledge and/or experience of reproductive health/conception, and the processes involved in developing patient-decision aids are essential.

The candidate will be located within Psychology in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the post is full-time for 36 months. The person appointed must be able to start work on the 1st September 2023 and this post is fixed term until the end of August 2026.

For an informal discussion about the position please contact the project leads: Professor Georgina Jones g.l.jones@leedsbeckett.ac.uk (RfPB) and Dr Rhys Turner-Moore r.turner-moore@leedsbeckett.ac.uk (ESRC). For further information about the studies please go to www.cancerfertilityandme.org.uk and www.theosdproject.com.

Closing date: Wednesday 12 July 2023 (23:59)

Interview date: Monday 24 July 2023 (this may be subject to change)

Please note that this post is subject to a criminal records check (Enhanced level)

Working here means you’ll also have access to a wide range of benefits including our generous pension schemes, excellent holiday entitlements, flexible working, reduced study fees, subsidised fitness facilities and a lot more.

We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from black and minority ethnic candidates as members of these groups are currently under-represented at this level of post. All appointments will be based on merit.
