Pay Band – 3 Agenda for change (Increments include cost of living allowance)

Hours – 37.5 / week Secondment for 1 year with probability of extension

A great opportunity has arisen for current band 3’s or band 2 MCA’s at the end of their apprenticeship to try life in the community. Are you looking for a new way of working with women / birthing people, babies, and midwives? If so, why not give the community a try.

We are looking for a community MSW to work with fabulous midwives in one of our community teams in a seconded position for 1 year. There is the probability this can be extended to 3 years.

This role comprises working within a Multi – Professional Team delivering high quality care to women / birthing people and their families. Applicants must have had prior experience working within a Maternity Department and will be expected to work independently, undertaking tasks, whilst remaining under the supervision of midwives. This will include providing care and support to the midwives in clinic, care and support for postnatal women / birthing people and their babies at home including weighing babies and undertaking the Newborn Bloodspot test, phlebotomy, breastfeeding support and advice including breastfeeding drop-in clinics. We are excited to announce that the community MSW’s will now also be part of the homebirth service. This is an evolving position which brings even more excitement, enabling you to work autonomously whilst knowing you have the support of the midwives in your team

Working as a Maternity Support Worker enables you to gain exposure to a wide range of skills and offers extensive scope for professional development under the supervision of midwives. The Trust provides an extensive range of in-house training and support in ongoing professional development. Your personal development will be identified at your annual appraisal reviews and supported by your team leads and senior midwifery managers.

Please read the job and personal specifications carefully. You need to provide evidence in your application of all the essential criteria. Car driver essential. Must be currently an HCA with maternity experience.

To assist the midwives in the delivery of care to women in the hospital and community setting. The post holder carries a defined range of duties delegated by and reported back registered member of the multi-professional team.

The MSW is able to work regularly without direct supervision, reports any concerns, change in the condition of the woman and baby and highlights incidents to the midwife responsible for care.

Duties and responsibilities for the role will be discussed and agreed on a daily basis with the midwife in charge, with communication channels open throughout the day for further advice and support.
