Position Overview & Specifications

The Liverpool University NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) was created in 2019, after successful merger of the Royal Liverpool and Aintree Hospitals. Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint 2 trainees in their final year training or post CCT, to undertake a 12 month fellowship in either GI or GU imaging.

We are looking for candidates who are able to commence the fellowship between May – September 2023. We have a long history of offering such fellowships. The posts will be full time and be based at the Royal Liverpool, Broadgreen and York Centre sites at LUHFT.

Candidates must hold full GMC registration with a license to practice. Candidates who are not from majority English speaking countries as defined by the UK Border Agency must provide proof of competency in English.

The department offers a wide breadth of both diagnostic and interventional services. LUHFT is a regional specialist centre for numerous GI and GU cancers.

The GI fellow would be exposed to all aspects of gastrointestinal imaging including MR and CT small bowel imaging, MR proctography, CT colonography, hepatic and pancreatic imaging, contrast and endo-anal ultrasound, PET CT, as well as exposure to endoscopic imaging interpretation.
  • The department performs interventional oncology treatments (ablation and TACE in particular) with associated diagnostic work-up and follow-up imaging.
Please see main job description for more details

The GU fellow wouldhave the opportunity to focus on urological imaging alone or to combine this with gynaecological imaging.

The successful candidate wouldbe exposed to all aspects of urogynae-radiological imaging including MR, CT and fluoroscopy imaging. There will be opportunities to develop ultrasound skills including ultrasound of renal transplants. For interested candidates there would be opportunities to develop skills in cross sectional and ultrasound imaging of the penis.
  • Royal Liverpool Hospital is the regional specialist urological centre with 5Uroradiology Consultants. We host the weekly regional specialist urology and testicular cancer and adrenal MDT meetings. Other MDTs include renovascular, renal transplant and urological stone MDT meetings.
Both posts have a strong focus on education, high end GI/GU radiology experience and research. Protected time will be provided for research.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.
