In absence of Heads of Service triage incoming clinical referrals and schedule according to urgency, clinical need and date of referral and availability of resources.

Select appropriate tests for individual patients, based on information from the referral and clinical history as taken by scientist at the start of the session.

Set up and operate complex equipment to perform highly specialised scientific clinical measurements, (dealing with issues that may arise during the test procedure) in order to diagnose patients who have complex hearing, vertiginous, balance or sight problems.

Process results for subsequent analysis, ensure the data is of the best quality and identify results where there may be some uncertainty (e.g. due to artefacts, technical or patient co-operation difficulties).

Analyse the results of the clinical measurement accurately and reliably. Interpret the complex (sometimes conflicting) results. Interpret these results taking into account the clinical information (referral, patient history obtained) and presentation, all of which can again be conflicting.

All must be within the departmental time frame determined and provide a precise interpretation on the results.
