Position Overview & Specifications

About this job

The Adolescent and Youth Offending Service is a newly developed team that focuses on the contextual issues that exist for young people. We have brought together a range of provision including the preventative arm of the service that delivers high quality and engaging sessions with young people identified as being at risk of being exploited or potentially entering the criminal justice system as well as those exposed to exploitation and those already on statutory criminal orders. The education worker will give a focus to the educational needs of the young people open to the service. It will include one to one work with young people to support their learning as well as advocating with education providers to assist young people in their educational settings. This is an area of focus as research has shown that high aspirations and good educational engagement reduces the potential of both young people entering the youth justice system or re-offending once involved in the criminal justice system. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a new way, focusing on engaging young people and thinking creatively. You will develop strong links with schools and education providers in order to help meet the needs of the young person. This is a challenging yet rewarding role where you will need to work under pressure and develop great relationships. You will be part of a dynamic, enthusiastic multi agency team that includes YOS workers, exploitation social workers as well as a range of partner agencies that are leading the way in safeguarding our vulnerable and exploited adolescents. Occasional evening or weekend working may be expected as part of this role
