About Directorate

The Highways Service maintains one of the most valuable assets the Council owns, acting as a platform for social and economic prosperity. Enabling the undertaking of safe, reliable, and sustainable journeys while acting as the biggest Utility duct in the Borough as well as supporting emergency and response services. The Highways Service encompasses three integrated teams, Asset Management; Traffic Management & Compliance; and Performance, Programme and Innovation. Together they provide high quality and cost-effective highways and transportation management solutions, which are of real benefit to residents, business, and visitors to the borough, both now and into the future.

About the role

Working as part of the Design Hub the Senior Design Engineer will carry out all relevant duties and responsibilities in the work of the Design Team on behalf of the wider Highways Service to ensure the delivery of cost effective and quality services in accordance with Barnet’s vision and values so as to enhance the quality of life and physical environment of Barnet and contribute to the prosperity of the Borough

About you

• Demonstrable Engineering, Transportation, or equivalent experience
• Able to demonstrate a suitable knowledge of Traffic and Transport Polices and Legislation
• Experience in programme and project management
• Able to mentor apprentices/graduates
• Proactively support performance management techniques and use of utilisation tools/methods
